AUSSIE DRAMAS

With Carolyn Stewart

TV WEEK blogger Carolyn Stewart always has something to say about what's happening on Home And Away.

A quick chat with Kate Ritchie
I was sad to hear that Kate Ritchie is leaving her job with Merrick and Rosso at Nova 96.9 just because she's such a natural on the radio. However, the good news is that she told listeners on the day of the announcement that she plans to return to her first love - acting.

She says that her role in gangland crime drama Underbelly this year sealed the deal and is returning to her passion. She told listeners, "After two wonderful years, challenging years, here at Nova, my heart's telling me that I need to continue with my acting career. Having a break from acting, more than anything, made me realise that that's what I really need to do and that's what's in my heart."

In light of the development, I had a very interesting chat to lovely former Summer Bay resident and all I'll say about that at this stage is that you should have a look out for that in next week's mag!! I think you'll all quite like what she had to say.

You know we belong together
Speaking of Kate Ritchie, is anyone else absolutely loving the Home and Away reruns on the HD channel 7Two that shows Kate when she first started on the show as a tiny little kid? I certainly am! Kicking off with the very first episode ever a couple of weeks ago, it's been fantastic to see all the old faces - and I must give a special shout out to the well - groomed mullet of one Alex Papps at this point! - and see how much the show has changed.

Except for Alf. He's the same.

One of the best parts about reliving all the glory is hearing the Home and Away theme song in full in both the opening and closing credits. It's soooo good. I know it's cheesy. I know people make fun of it but it is a seriously awesome song and I just love it.

LOVE. IT.

The Aden Show
I realise that most of my blogs are pretty much an ode to Aden and, quite frankly, that's because he rocks! I mentioned recently that Aden almost seems back to his usual fun-loving self following Belle's death and this week really cemented it.

At first I thought it was a little creepy when Aden was listening in on Liam talking to one of his music students. (How awesome is that though? Imagine Axle Whitehead moved to your town and started giving music lessons! I'd sign up on the spot even though I don't have a musical bone in my body) Anyway, the eaves - dropping was a bit creepy but it set up the week so well.

For starters, Liam did the right thing in shutting down the student but it paved the way for a bit of old-school rivalry. While Liam cooked a romantic dinner for two, Nicole was actually off with Aden. When Nicole (who was wearing the most hilarious silver pants I've ever seen to the beach) and Aden were attacked by kids with water guns - breaking Nicole's phone - Aden laughed it up and threw her in the water. They looked like they were having so much fun and then they went for drinks at the Surf Club. Aden drinking a Cosmopolitan out of a dainty little glass? Even more hilarious!

When Nicole returned home, Liam was furious (you could tell because he was totally furrowing his brow) and said he'd been trying to call his girlfriend repeatedly. She tried to explain that her phone was broken and she didn't know he was making her dinner but he was having none of it. While the ensuing fight took place in the kitchen, Aden was once again sitting in the next room listening in and was - absolutely loving it!

Nicole stormed out then Liam followed so Aden sat down to the meal for two his enemy had prepared. "Thank you, rock star!"

Speaking of Aden - which, let's face it, I always am - I love scenes with him and Geoff too. It was a good laugh when Geoff was rabbiting on about his issues with Ruby and Aden was once again on fire when he then ordered some beverages. "Can I get a ginger beer and a pink lemonade for sweetheart?"

Oh, how I laughed!

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Liam was still sulking so Nicole said to Aden, "What's his problem?" and Aden replied, "Depends how long you've got."

I wasn't a big fan of Aden moving on from Belle EVER but if being with Nicole brings this kind of hilarity, I'm all for it. I swear every line out of his mouth is comedy gold at the moment.

How embarrassing!
Geoff and Ruby were looking to spice up their relationship this week but were interrupted by Irene's sudden arrival home from her trip with Annie and Jai (remember them?). The pair were suitably embarrassed and tried to act as casual as possible. Geoff left Ruby's room first to greet Irene but he was in such a rush that he put his T-shirt on inside-out and backwards so the tag was ridiculously visible. Sprung!

Best exchange
Poor Miles, who is lying in a hospital bed after being bashed by teenagers: "It's not as bad as it looks."

Nicole: "Are you sure? Have you seen yourself?"

Question of the week: Do you think Aden and Nicole could make a cute couple in the future? Have your say on our discussion boards!
